According to ISO 3834, the quality of welded fabrication is not just about...

For fabricators aiming to certify to ISO 3834-2, the key elements include:

• Review of contracts and design requirements before fabrication begins.

• Qualification of welding procedures (WPQR) and welders (WQT) to relevant product standards.

• Control of production welding, including consumable storage, preheat, and interpass temperatures.

• Non-destructive testing and final inspection with clear acceptance criteria.

• Documentation and traceability of all quality records.

Many fabricators underestimate the documentation burden. A gap in weld maps or missing NDT reports can lead to non-conformances. The standard also requires calibration of measuring and test equipment, which is often overlooked.

How does your organization manage the transition between ISO 3834-3 and 3834-2 when project requirements escalate?
